There is still snow in our garden but not everywhere. Today was very sunny and warm! I can almost hear the winter (and the rest of the snow) running away and the spring settling down. I am very eager to take care of my garden and everyday I go to see what has happened to my last autumn's flower plantings.
We have an old house and a lot of old perennial plants in the garden. The garden was a bit shaggy when we moved in but last summer I did quite a lot work for it (it is shaggy still but not so much:D ). In the autumn I put hundreds of bulbs in the ground and those are popping up now in the spring.
Galanthus Nivalis (puistolumikello) was the first flower to flourish in the garden this spring. I found some white flowers in the end of March and it is still flourishing strongly. Beautiful!
I have old and new bulbs of narcissus (narsissi) all over the garden. I took all the old narcissus I found up from the ground and separated the multiple bulbs apart and planted those again. In addition to those I also bought some new bulbs. And these all seem to have managed over the winter very well. Even in my compost seems to be some tens of narcissus (which I forgot to plant, I suppose:)!
Fritillaria imperialis (Keisarinpikarililja/keisarinkruunu) is one of the biggest spring / early summer flowers. I love this one (and the moles luckily don´t!). My fritillarias are orange ones, I hope i am able to post you some pictures of them flourishing as soon as possible!
